With the holiday season approaching, the end of year chaos is upon us. It’s easy to get caught up in all the things that you have to do and can be easy to forget about taking care of yourself. That could mean neglecting your self-care routine and even letting your love life take a back seat. The thing is, the Holiday season is just too magical to let any of this fall to the wayside. So, whether you are spending this Holiday season with the love of your life or going it alone this year, you should be ramping up the self-love and romance every chance you get. That’s why we put together this simple guide to help you bring the holiday heat back into your life. You can follow these steps with your partner or treat yourself to some solo holiday romance. Either way, remember that you deserve it!

Bathe

Run a hot bath for two or just you! Turn on some holiday music or some sexy tunes, light a holiday scented candle, add in some flowers, spark up a joint (whatever your heart desires) and run a nice hot bath. Try our Peppermint Latte bath bomb and up the CBD doseage by adding in an Immunity bath bomb. Being horizontal in water helps our mood, increases circulation, and provides endless additional benefits. Make sure to relax, breath and allow atleast 30 minutes to absorb all the CBD and those essential oils.

Introduce Ignite

With so much going on, you may be extra tired and not in the mood. But the truth is that orgasms are good for our health. Several studies have found that sex and orgasm are good for your heart, both because the process provides a solid workout and because they help to lower your blood pressure, reduce stress, and improve your emotional health. Our Ignite lubricant features cannabis, a vasodilator which brings blood to the area allowing you to orgasm quicker, as it’s active ingredient.

Drop a note

With materialism and consumerism in its peak season, it’s easy to get caught up. That’s why I love to leave little love notes. Write one for yourself and put it in your makeup, your car, or in your bathroom cabinet. Chances are you’ll forget it about it and find it at the moment you need it most. If you have a partner, write one for them too. Leave it by the bedside table, in their lunch box, or in a shoe. There’s nothing like opening up a little paper and reading something sweet. Scientifically, your brain will release endorphins and dopamine. It will not only make you feel better, but science says the receiver will most likely pass on those good vibes.

At Kush Queen, we started as a family. This business has allowed our family to grow and gives us the opportunity to connect with incredible people. November 27 is known as #GivingTuesday and we wanted to get in on the giving. So, we chose a few different places and people to spread the love too.

We wanted to give to campaigns big and small while some were organizations, others are Go Fund me pages all are close to our heart. We donated to each of these campaigns and hope you consider them on #GivingTuesday

TRANS LIFELINE

With the recent attacks on the trans community by our current administration, we at Kush Queen believe we cannot erase trans people. We believe in fostering a more accepting world. We learned about this organization via a KQ supporter and heard they have been inundated with calls recently. We believe this organization is so important because it was created for the trans community by the trans community.

THE BOYER/DELAROSA FAMILY FIRE FUND

Delarosa Family.jpg

We have spent the years in cannabis allowing this industry to connect us with inspirational people. Yvonne Delarosa is inarguably one of those people every woman in cannabis has to thank. Yvonne was an original pioneer, as the recipient of LA County’s first license. She is the owner 99HighTide in Malibu. Not only a home for our beloved Kush Queen products but the mermaids of Malibu. The community Yvonne has built in Malibu is truly something we have always looked up to at KQ. It is heartbreaking to see the ruins of her home, where we had celebrated 4/20 this year.  Yvonne and her family fleed the flames of the Woolsey Fire with only moments to spare.

ROCHELLE’S RECOVERY FUND

This year one of our very own Kush Queen employee’s, Rochelle was tragically struck by a car on her morning run. We were devastated, as Rochelle has been with our company for many years. In this day and age of post-legalization cannabis, it’s pretty rare to hear of homegrown cannabis brands. At Kush Queen we are lucky to have had the experience of starting with nothing but a dream and our passion for the plant. That passion led us to create a better brand: one that cared about what was inside our products just as much as the people that were using them.

Every product we make has a story and a purpose behind it. We don’t just sell products with cannabis, we sell products with purpose. From our marketing to our manufacturing line, everything we do matters and our story is what has molded us into who we are today. We have enjoyed using our platform as a tool for telling stories of our favorite people who have inspired us. We thought it was time we told ours.

Happy Thanksgiving.

For us, this day is simply a time to come together, enjoy community, reflect and most importantly, show our gratitude. This year we did a special shoot with a group of ( just a few of) our favorite Kush Queens. Each of them represents something that we are especially grateful for this year.

Connection

Inspired by Verita

Over the years cannabis has connected me with all of these incredible people. Our connection to Verita came to be because of Kush Queen products. When she began tagging our brand on social media and showering our brand with love, it felt like we had to have her involved. This year she was featured in our spring/Summer 2018 lookbook, because why hire models when your customers are. Verita symbolizes the very thing that makes every day at Kush Queen so special. We are grateful for connection.

Creativity

Inspired by Morgan

ThankfulAF Morgan.jpg

Cannabis and creativity go hand and in hand. Morgan has spent the last year taking our photos and telling our story with her creativity. Looking back on our shoots and feeds it feels like flipping through the pages of a scrapbook. Sure, the finished photos are beautiful, but what warms our hearts are the memories of creating them together. From building flower walls to spending countless hours huddled together in bathrooms working toward that perfect Bath Bomb shot. We’ve had a blast, both on and off camera. Without creativity, our lives would be dull and boring, and that’s just not us. In the unknown lies so much beauty and so much adventure. Every time we sit down to plan a shoot, the mystery of what we will do next excites us. We are grateful for creativity.

Comedy

Inspired By Wolfie

In 2018, we met a ton of unique challenges, from the first year of legal weed to personal tragedy. We would not have made it through this year without comedy. Laughter was truly our medicine and no one symbolizes that better than Wolfie. Cannabis and comedy simply belong together, and we have been lucky to have the Queen of the Cannabis meme, Wolfie, as part of our team. No matter what life hands us, it’s good to know that around the corner is a really good laugh. We are grateful for comedy.

Loyalty

Inspired by Ashley

It’s one thing to find loyalty in success, it’s another to find it on your way to the top. Ashley opened up the very first Kush Queen wholesale account at her dispensary. She believed in this brand from day one and has been with us since inception. Whatever the job required she did it. Modeling for photoshoots, rolling joints, packaging product, sharing our brand at in-store demo’s, and even payroll. She has done it all. Her loyalty to Kush Queen leaves us speechless and will never be forgotten. We are grateful for loyalty.

Community

Inspired by Ben

ThankfulAF Ben.jpg

At Kush Queen, our journey has been anything, but normal. We didn’t start with investors or funding. We are a homegrown brand built off our community & our community intersects with a number of communities. The act of togetherness and the feeling of unity has been vital to the growth of our brand. The past, present, and future of Kush Queen are defined by the word community. Ben is one of those people that makes KQ so special and has brought so many incredible people together this year. Ben inspired us to put real people with real stories in all of our campaigns. There is something so magical about being on a set with authentic stories being brought to life. At the end of many days, we have been brought to tears after wrap knowing we did our small part in representing the world around us. We are grateful for Community.

full moon letting go blog 001.jpg

This year’s Gemini Full Moon falls on Black Friday and serves as a timely reminder to express gratitude for what we have and to let go of what isn’t working.

Gratitude can feel elusive when we’re facing challenging times. The holiday season can bring up intense emotions, stress, grief, and tension, which can leave us wishing we could fast forward to January. Combined with all the loss, tragedy, injustice, and political turmoil IRL and in our news feeds, and it can be difficult to see the light.

Use these tools to be more intentional about how you show up and what energy you give off as the holiday season kicks off.

Get Grounded

Instead of mentally checking out to avoid an emotional rollercoaster ride, try these simple ways to relax and get grounded:

  • Go outside and appreciate the natural beauty that exists; look up at the night sky and bask in the glow of the Gemini Full Moon

  • Pause and take a few deep breaths with your feet planted on the ground; close your eyes and feel your breath move through your body; allow it to expand into your belly and lungs

  • Smudge your space – light a sage bundle, incense, palo santo, or a candle to lift your mood and bring you into the present moment

  • Brew a cup of chamomile tea and drop in a dose of Bare Tincture to relax physically and mentally.

  • Draw a footbath and choose your favorite bath bomb from the Kush Queen mini collection to soak your feet in while you puff on a joint

Harnessing the energy of the moon to align your body, mind, and spirit will increase your appreciation for your innate ability to heal yourself.

As Above, so Below

If we take a cue from nature we can see how letting go is essential to our evolution. The moon is a perfect example of this playing out every 28 days as she cycles from stage to stage: Waxing to full, waning to new.

Create a mini-ceremony of appreciation for whatever you’re ready to let go of with this ritual:

  • Get grounded using your prefered grounding technique

  • Write down what you’re letting go of on a piece of paper and fold it to about palm-size

  • Meditate with your hands in prayer, the piece of paper in between them

  • Thank it for the lessons it’s taught you and bid it farewell

  • (Safely) burn the piece of paper or rip it up to symbolically release it

There is beauty and strength in letting go of what once served us with gratitude and appreciation for what it represented in our journeys.

Give for Gratitude

The full moon can amplify people’s vibes for better or for worse. You have the power to create a positive shift in the collective energy by doing something kind for someone else.

  • Hold the door open or make an extra effort to greet someone warmly

  • Buy a stranger a coffee or offer to cook dinner for a busy friend

  • Donate to a good cause or volunteer to help someone in need

  • Host a holiday sesh for your closest friends or plan the next group dinner

These small gestures will raise your vibrations and those of the people you interact with.

Let us know how these rituals and techniques worked for you and share your adaptations with us by tagging @kushqueenshop & @kushqueenco in your Insta posts and stories!!

The weather is finally cooling down here on the west coast & the fall feels are sinking in hard. For me, being the basic bish that I am, that means it’s time to break out the pumpkin. I feel compelled to note that as I write this I am shamelessly scarfing down a slice of pumpkin cheesecake. It. Is. Everything. I honestly just love the warm comfort the aromas and flavors that a good pumpkin recipe can provide. It can be sweet, savory, foods, beverages, it doesn’t matter. If it’s pumpkin, gimme!

background-beans-caffeine-633481.jpg

Since we launched our Bäre tincture this month, I decided to hit the kitchen and start whipping up some pumpkin yummies for my soul and for my tummy. I then immediately remembered that I am actually super lazy and impatient and thus, I’ve created 4, easy AF pumpkin beverage recipes to warm your spirit all through the cold season ahead. Oh, and P.S. they are all Vegan friendly!

Yes, I know most people like to go full speed on the pumpkin pre-halloween, so I may seem like I’m late to the party, but i’m not. I def ordered my first PSL when it was 90 degrees out so I get it, but for me, I really start to crave all those pumpkiny comforts in November. It’s the time of year when I’m pulling out all of my favorite sweaters, feeling that twinge of home sickness, breaking out the holiday music and attempting to journal about my daily gratitudes yet again. That is when I reach for the pumpkin. The nostalgia. The warm fuzzies. Soooo, I am going to go whip up a tasty pumpkin beverage, draw myself a hot bath, drop in a Kush Queen Pumpkin Spice Latte Bath Bomb and turn into the magical pumpkin that I truly am. I highly recommed you do the same.

Bullet Proof Pumpkin Spice Coffee

If you are on that Keto kick this year, I highly recommend this warm, creamy and lightly spiced beverage.

You will need:

6 oz brewed coffee of your choosing

1 full dropper of Bäre Daily Wellness Tincture

½ TBSP Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

1 TBSP Full Fat Coconut Milk

1 TBSP Pumpkin Puree

½ tsp Vanilla Extract

1 tsp Cinnamon Extract

1 tsp Pumpkin Spice

Whip it up:

This is such a simple recipe. You just need to toss all of the ingredients into a blender ( I use a Nutri Bullet) and let it pulse in 30-second increments until all ingredients have fully combined.

This step is not optional. If you simply stir the ingredients the oil will not properly incorporate into the coffee and you will be left with an oily beverage. No thanks. The blending ensures you get a delicious and creamy beverage without the oily feel or aftertaste. Be cautious and take it slow when opening your blender as the heat can cause some pressure to build. Pour it up and Enjoy!

Salted Caramel Pumpkin Smoothie

If you are looking for a tasty breakfast, snack or dessert that will satisfy that pumpkin craving and your sweet tooth, you’re gonna want to try this smoothie!

You will need:

1 Dropper of Bäre Daily Wellness

1 Frozen Banana

1 Cup Apple juice

3 Pitted Dates (Soaked in hot water for 10 minutes)

2 TBSP Pumpkin  Puree

1 tsp Pumpkin Spice

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

1 Pinch sea salt (add in the blender)

1 Pinch coarse sea salt (for topping)

Whip it up:

This recipe will call for your blender as well. Again, simply toss all of your ingredients into the blender and let it go until you get a smooth creamy consistency. You may need to remove the lid and scrape things down once or twice to ensure all of the dates and bananas get broken down to your liking. Pour into your favorite cup (I’m a mug for everything kinda girl), top with a few scoops of this Bäre Whipped Cream recipe, a sprinkle of cinnamon and coarse Sea Salt and enjoy!

Pumpkin Spice French Press Latte

If you want to feel fancy AF, and get a strong, smooth and elegant cup of coffee in your hands, I got you. I love a good cup of french press and this pumpkin spice version steals my heart!

What you will need:

1 dropper Bäre Daily Wellness

2 rounded TBSP Ground Coffee

2 tsp Pumpkin Spice + ½ tsp

6 oz Scalding Water (almost boiling, but not quite)

4 oz Almond Milk (or Milk of your choosing)

2 TBSP Pumpkin Puree

Whip it up:

Heat your water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add your coffee grounds, and Pumpkin Spice to the French Press. Once the water reaches scalding, add to French Press, and stir well to combine. Add the top and let steep for 5 minutes. Gently press down.

While your coffee is steeping, in your blender, add the milk, Bäre Daily Wellness, ½ tsp of pumpkin spice and pumpkin puree. Blend well until you get a nice froth.

Pour your french pressed coffee into a 12oz or larger cup, add the frothed milk and sweeten to your desired taste.

Hot Pumpkin Creme

For any non-coffee drinkers out there, you’ve got to try this recipe. Get all the cozy hot chocolate feels, but in non-dairy, pumpkin alternative. Soooo creamy!!

What you need:

1 dropper Bäre Daily Wellness

8 oz almond milk (or milk of your choosing)

1 tsp Cornstarch

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 TBSP non-dairy creamer (or creamer or choice)

2 TBSP pumpkin Puree

1 tsp pumpkin spice

Whip it up:

In a small bowl mix the cornstarch with 1 TBSP warm water until fully incorporated. Add all remaining ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a small pot, add the cornstarch mixture and bring to a low boil. Reduce heat to low and let heat for 3-5 minutes. Transfer to your favorite mug, add marshmallows, whip cream or a sprinkle or cinnamon (or all three) to complete this tasty beverage.

Friendsgiving 3.jpg

Thanksgiving is fun and all, but let’s be real… the real fun is at Friendsgiving, with our chosen family, good food, and great weed. The downside to Friendsgiving? Hosting it. However, don’t let that stop you from stepping up to the plate to host Friendsgiving for your group! Here’s a quick rundown on how to throw a perfect Friendsgiving, and not get in over your head.

THE DECOR

I’m a minimalist, which makes decorating quite easy. White pillar candles, eucalyptus, and pumpkins are all I need to decorate for Friendsgiving. Small pumpkins and eucalyptus are extremely cost-effective when you’re trying to decorate multiple spaces but aren’t looking to spend a pretty penny. The best part of using pumpkins and eucalyptus? It lasts all. month. long.

Friendsgiving 007.jpg

Using the candles, eucalyptus and pumpkins, create a table runner on the main table. Arrange it and play with it until it looks good; there’s really no right or wrong way to do this. Pop a pumpkin or two and some leaves on the bar and serving tables, see where you have room to fit in some candles and you’re done!

Pro tip: add a small vase of the eucalyptus and candle in the bathroom. It really helps you step up your adulting game.

PLACE SETTINGS

Friendsgiving 002.jpg

My favorite thing about place settings is that it gives you the chance to work in a party favor without having to take up more space. This year, it was a no-brainer to use the KUSH QUEEN Pumpkin Spice CBD bath bombs for the guests to know where they were sitting. I added place cards with the guests’ name to a coffee stirring stick and placed it in the drink hole. I highly recommend doing this for any and every dinner you host!

CREATE A PHOTO OP

PSX_20181116_200304.jpg

All queens love getting done up, and they especially love a good photo op. Find a place where you can hang a banner or something festive, and make a point to snap some shots. It may feel a little forced at first, but everyone will love it! Having photos to hold on to these memories is something you’ll cherish forever. Ultimately, nobody regrets taking a photo with their best babes.

THE FOOD

Keep things simple! Don’t plan to cook everything yourself. You’re already offering your home to all your friends, which they should be grateful for. Ask each of them to bring a dish or dessert to contribute to Friendsgiving. It not only creates a great community vibe, but it also helps keep the cost and pressure of cooking to a minimum.

With guests bringing over food that may need to be heated, I like to plan for an hour or so before the main meal. A simple cheese and meat spread will keep all your guests happy while the big meal starts to come together. It also gives them the chance to say hello, and that one friend who’s always late won’t feel so bad when they arrive and see everyone isn’t seated yet.

Friendsgiving 004.jpg

Any time I’m hosting, I love to provide CBD infused options. Some items I’ll infuse the food ahead of time, other items I leave the BARE CBD bottle out and allow guests to add it on their own. I find this actually encourages guests to try BARE more; they feel more comfortable knowing they can be in control of their dosing. When it comes to the drink station, I always leave it up to the guests to infuse their own drinks. If you’re hosting to a group of heavy consumers, infuse away!

When it came to dessert, I offered a BARE CBD whip cream on the side of the pumpkin pie. So simple, and so so delicious (especially in your coffee!). Snag the recipe for this sweet side below!

BARE CBD WHIP CREAM

Friendsgiving 006.jpg

  • 1 cup cold heavy whipping cream

  • 2 to 4 tablespoons powdered sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon BARE CBD

  1. Chill mixing bowl in the freezer for 15 minutes

  2. Combine whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla extract in a stand mixer

  3. Mix until stiff peaks form

  4. Add BARE CBD, slowly fold it into the whipped cream with a spatula by hand

holidays-dinner-eating-lunch.jpg

It’s that time of year again: The Holiday Season. Thanksgiving. Chanukah. Christmas. Kwanzaa. New Year’s Eve & Day.

We’re traveling. We’re visiting loved ones. We’re meeting our Significant Other’s family. We’re a little overwhelmed.

Getting to and from our destinations is its own special brand of hell: Airport security lines that wrap around the terminal; A road trip with endless traffic and pit stops; Screaming children and adults (possibly within your own party); Sharing space—and germs—with other passengers.

Then finally you arrive.

For some of us, it’s a joyous occasion where we’re reunited with family members we only see this time of year: Hugs, laughs, a year’s worth of stories; Measuring a little one’s growth since last Christmas; Remembering the good ol’ days. This is what life is all about.

But some of us experience our most challenging feelings this time of year.

We may be stressed out, hoping to make a good first impression. We may be anticipating disapproval of our new career, or our lifestyle, or—worst of all—our orientation and identity. We may go in feeling defensive—we’re about to break bread with people whose beliefs are fundamentally opposed to our own…and we are expected to be polite. Ugh.

We are quite literally out of our element. We’re staying in hotels or guest bedrooms—if we’re lucky. Our routines are impacted, if we can maintain them at all. And all of our creature comforts can’t fit in a carry on, so what do we do?

Here are some ideas for staying grounded and creating a space of your own while travelling during The Holiday Season:

pexels-photo-415359.jpeg

Bring portable items for comfort

My least favorite thing about travelling is occupying a space that doesn’t feel like my own; bringing a few small items that make me feel at home are key. Here are some of my essentials:

  • Portable diffuser and essential oils—try this one from Amazon

  • If you can’t fit a diffuser in your bag, make your own DIY room spray. All you need is a 1oz. spray bottle, your favorite essential oils, witch hazel or alcohol, and water.

  • Kush Queen’s Melt—Soothe tension and pain after sitting in a car or plane all day and carrying heavy bags. The peppermint smell is invigorating and brings you back into your body.

  • Spiritual tools—A fresh Palo Santo stick (which travels better than Sage), matches, a candle, and a crystal or two. Aquamarine, Green Aventurine, Channeling Quartz, and Bloodstone are great for traveling.

  • Something comforting (and small)—A framed picture, a stuffed animal, or a favorite book—something that brings out a smile.

20180816-IMG_3860.jpg

Get Away (even for just a moment):

Before things get explosive around that ultra-conservative uncle who has no sense of compassion, take a break. Try one of these temporary escapes:

Go outside for a safety meeting (if possible) or a walk:

  • If a nosey relative tries to follow, say you need to make an important phone call.

  • As a Southern California native, I realize that not everyone can be outside this time of year. Seek refuge in the garage or a vacant room.

  • Perhaps you can volunteer to go get more ice, or butter, or fire logs—anything.

Find an ally who will get away with you or cover for you while you’re gone, like:

  • Your significant other—after all, you brought them or they brought you!

  • The cousin who you’re sneaking away to smoke with

  • The aunt who you always confess your deepest secrets to

  • Your sister who can’t stand your dad’s new girlfriend either

If the only way to get away is to go to the bathroom, then do that! Bring your room spray to make the space yours, even if just for a moment.

pexels-photo-1018133.jpeg

Make one part of your routine non-negotiable (or adopt one of these practices while you’re away)

  • If you do yoga every day, then still do yoga every day

  • If you put on a face mask on Sunday, then still put on a face mask on Sunday

  • If you journal every morning, then still journal every morning

  • If you read before bed, then still read before bed

  • If you meditate twice a day, then still meditate twice a day

  • Honoring yourself is one of the best ways to stay grounded and maintain inner peace.

No matter what, this too shall pass

If you’ve really reached your limit and are ready to explode, just remember that it’s going to be over soon. Have compassion for yourself and those who press your buttons the most. After all, we’re all on this human journey together…and none of us are getting out of here alive.

Happy holidays!
